Ofsted rated us 'Good' in all areas in 2022. The report highlights that “leaders put the welfare of pupils, as well as academic achievement, at the heart of everything they do” and that the “headteacher has very high expectations of the school”. “Pupils enjoy school” and there is a “strong sense of community for both staff and pupils”.
Bournside is consistently oversubscribed with a PAN of 300, with most of our students choosing to stay with us post-16 in our thriving Sixth Form.

Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheltenham Bournside School as a Teacher of Modern Foreign
Languages. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of French and Spanish. Due to the size and
flexibility of our language offering at Bournside, we also welcome applicants who are teachers of German and
Mandarin.
The MFL Department at Bournside is housed in its own suite of rooms within the school; there are currently
seven full and part-time teachers of MFL and two language assistants.
A balanced languages curriculum is taught. In Year 7 we aid to give each student an experience of learning each of
our languages - French, German, Spanish and Mandarin. From Year 8 they will be given the chance to specialise in
the one(s) they feel they want to take further into Year 8/9 and beyond at GSCE and A-Level. We currently teach
the Pearson Edexcel specification for all GSCE languages and AQA for French, German and Spanish at A-Level,
and Pearson Edexcel for Mandarin at A-Level.
Many of our students also take additional language GSCEs and A-Levels in either their home language or a
language they are studying independently. Our school community speaks over 40 languages and we celebrate that
through a variety of activities, often in conjunction with our EAL Coordinator.
The post would be an ideal opportunity for a new entrant to the profession although equally attractive to a more
experienced colleague. We have a positive commitment to supporting Early Career Teachers and a comprehensive
staff development programme.

Reintegration Centre Supervisor

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheltenham Bournside School as a Reintegration Centre Supervisor. The Bournside Reintegration Centre (BRC) was opened in 2019 and has been an integral aspect of upholding our robust behaviour policy ever since. The purpose of the BRC is to provide short-term intervention to enable students to be integrated to mainstream lessons and ultimately ensure we minimise disruption to maximise teaching and learning.
Reporting to the Assistant Headteacher and working closely with the Senior Leaders, Heads of House, Welfare and SEND teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for the students admitted to the room including behaviour, administrative tasks and liaison with pastoral staff and teachers to support the reintegration to mainstream lessons.
Site Team Operative

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheltenham Bournside School as a Site Team Operative. We are looking to appoint a Site Team Operative to join our Site team. As Site Operative, you will support in the maintenance of the schools buildings, gardens and grounds to a high standard throughout the year.
There are two positions available. You will work two shifts a week, Friday and Saturday. This is an all year round role.
Teacher of English

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheltenham Bournside School as a Teacher of English.
The English Department at Bournside is successful, dynamic and innovative. We are a dedicated and hardworking team of fourteen enthusiastic teachers and as well as having a Head of Department, we also have a Head of each Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. We constantly strive to be better and work collaboratively to deliver high-quality teaching and learning. Our curriculum intent is simple: enable all students to be critical readers, confident writers and successful speakers.
Over the last three years the average grade achieved in English has been 5.17 with an English Progress 8 score of +0.36 meaning our results are notably above average.
Our resources are excellent: a laptop for each English teacher, a set of laptops for exclusive use in the Department, visualisers for each room and two teaching blocks equipped with interactive whiteboards in each classroom.
We are proud of our knowledge-rich, resource-rich curriculum with topics such as Victorian Gothic, ‘right and wrong’ in fiction and protest poetry alongside Shakespeare. The English team is very strong and supportive. To add to our team, we are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who has experience of teaching across all three key stages and has a genuine love of literature.

Professional development

We are delighted to have been awarded the Gold Award for Professional Development from the Teacher Development Trust (TDT) in recognition of the exceptional level of CPD provision for teaching and support staff. The TDT is the national charity for effective professional development in schools and colleges and this external audit evaluates school culture and wellbeing, focus, needs analysis and evaluation, internal support and challenge, use of expert knowledge, processes and structures of CPD, and use of research, evidence and innovation. The coveted 'Gold' award in is very much a reflection of our genuine, shared commitment to inspiring the lives of both students and staff through learning.
The school has a proven track-record in designing and delivering a high-quality, research-informed programme of CPD, which senior leaders quite rightly take great pride in. It was a great pleasure to speak with a range of staff who clearly feel well supported and appreciative of the developmental opportunities unique to the school.
